The latest fun in the yachting scene are auctions. On April 20, during the Antibes Yacht Show, the Prestige Yacht Auction took place . With 38 yachts for sale via the auction this was posed as the biggest event in superyacht auction history. The smallest boat was a 8 meter Riva from 1968 – starting price 120’000 Euros. The longest, SS Delphine, a 78 meter long steam ship from 1921, was suppose to get at least 20 millions of Euros.
The atmosphere in the crowd was powered by exitment. Though the VIP tent as well as the dock were full, the present crowd soon revealed themselves as spectators, not buyers. The small success came by surprise: For a bargain of 750’000 Euros, the Schichau’s 77.7m converted tug Lone Ranger was sold. She has done two round-the-world trips and having been to both the Arctic and Antarctic. Bidders also showed interest in other yachts, but the Lone Ranger remained the only sold boat of the auction.
Prestige Yacht Auction will hold another superyacht auction at the Monaco Boat Show on 28th September. It was promised there will be more potential buyers present. Well, just go and collect them in the streets – shouldn’t be such a big problem in Monaco, no?
